What Is Check Valve Casting?
A check valve also called a non return valve is an automatic self-acting valve that permits flow in one direction and prevents backflow when flow reverses or pressure drops. Unlike a ball valve or gate valve, a check valve requires no actuator or manual operation; it opens under forward flow pressure and closes automatically under reverse pressure or gravity.
Check valve casting is the manufacturing of the valve body, disc, seat ring, cover, and hinge components using investment casting or sand casting. The casting must accurately reproduce seating surfaces, disc guide geometry, and hinge pin bores because any dimensional deviation directly affects cracking pressure, reseat tightness, and long-term backflow prevention performance.
At Invent Cast, check valve casting is produced in cast iron, ductile iron, carbon steel (WCB), stainless steel (CF8, CF8M), duplex steel, and other alloys serving check valve OEMs, pump with check valve assembly manufacturers, and global exporters across 20+ countries.
Types of Check Valve Castings
As a specialist check valve casting manufacturer, Invent Cast produces investment-cast and sand-cast components for all major check valve types:
1. Swing Check Valve Castings The most common non return valve type. A hinged disc swings open under forward flow and closes by gravity and back-pressure. Our swing check valve bodies are cast with precise hinge pin boss geometry, seat face angle, and body bore concentricity ensuring full-bore flow and positive reseat. Available in cast iron check valve, ductile iron, and cast steel variants.
2. Lift Check Valve Castings The disc (piston or ball) lifts vertically off the seat under forward flow and drops back under reverse pressure. Lift check valves are commonly used inline with pump with check valve installations to protect pumps from reverse flow surge. Our investment-cast lift check bodies deliver accurate guide bore alignment and seat surface finish critical for reliable seating.
3. Dual Plate (Wafer) Check Valve Castings Two spring-loaded half-disc plates open against a central hinge pin under forward flow and snap shut rapidly on flow reversal minimising water hammer. The wafer body format sits between pipe flanges like a wafer butterfly valve. Our dual plate check valve castings are precision-cast with accurate hinge pin bores, plate stop profiles, and flat parallel faces.
4. Ball Check Valve Castings A free-floating or spring-loaded ball seats against a conical or spherical seat to prevent reverse flow. Compact and self-cleaning, ball check valve bodies are widely used in chemical dosing, slurry, and viscous fluid service. Our investment-cast ball check bodies are produced with precise seat angles and smooth bore transitions.
5. Cast Iron Check Valve Body Castings Cast iron check valve bodies in GG25 / FG260 for water distribution, HVAC, and general utility service the most cost-effective material choice for low-to-medium pressure non return valve applications. Available in swing, lift, and dual plate configurations to ANSI, DIN, and BS standards.
6. Custom Check Valve Castings For OEMs requiring non-standard port geometry, integrated body features, special alloys, or proprietary disc designs Invent Cast produces custom check valve castings strictly to customer drawings. From prototype samples to full annual production volumes, with full material and dimensional traceability.
Why Investment Casting for Check Valve Components?
- Precise Seating Surfaces: Investment casting reproduces seat face angles and surface finish (Ra 3.2-6.3 µm) accurately directly affecting reseat tightness and zero-leakage performance of the non return valve.
- Complex Internal Geometry: Hinge pin bosses, guide bores, disc pockets, and integrated seat rings are formed in a single casting no multi-part fabrication.
- Near-Net-Shape: Minimal machining allowance reduces raw material consumption and per-unit cost for medium-to-high volume check valve casting production.
- Wide Alloy Range: From cast iron check valve bodies to SS316 and duplex steel for corrosive and high-pressure service all from one foundry.
- Dimensional Repeatability: CT4-CT6 tolerances ensure consistent disc-to-seat fit across every production batch.
- Design Flexibility: Thin walls, undercuts, integrated bosses, and complex flow passages all achievable without secondary assembly.
Industries We Serve
As experienced casting manufacturers, our check valve components are trusted by OEMs and industrial buyers across a wide range of industries:
Oil & Gas
Cast steel and duplex non return valve castings for pipeline, wellhead, and process service with full RT inspection and NACE compliance options.
Pump with Check Valve Assemblies
OEM manufacturers supplying pump with check valve skid assemblies rely on our check valve casting bodies for consistent bore alignment, accurate seat geometry, and reliable backflow prevention across high-cycle pump discharge duty.
Water & Wastewater Treatment
check valve and ductile iron bodies for pump stations, water mains, and sewage treatment the dominant material for large-bore non return valve applications.
Power Generation
Alloy steel and stainless steel non return valve castings for feedwater, condensate, and cooling water circuits at thermal and nuclear stations.

Frequently Asked Question
What is a check valve and how does it differ from other valves?
A check valve also known as a non return valve is a self-acting valve that allows flow in one direction only and closes automatically under reverse pressure or gravity. Unlike ball or gate valves, it requires no manual or actuated operation. It is used wherever backflow would damage equipment, contaminate product, or create a safety hazard most commonly on pump discharge lines, boiler feedwater systems, and pipeline installations.
What types of check valve castings does Invent Cast manufacture?
We manufacture investment-cast and sand-cast bodies for swing check, lift check, dual plate (wafer), ball check, and tilting disc check valves in cast iron check valve, ductile iron, carbon steel, stainless steel, duplex, and other alloys. We also produce custom check valve castings per OEM drawings.
What is the difference between a cast iron check valve and a stainless steel check valve casting?
A cast iron check valve body (GG25/FG260) suits low-to-medium pressure water, HVAC, and utility service — cost-effective but limited in corrosion resistance and impact strength. Stainless steel (CF8, CF8M) check valve castings are required for corrosive chemical service, hygienic process lines, and marine environments. For high-pressure oil and gas service, carbon steel (WCB) or duplex steel castings are the standard.
Do you supply check valve castings to buyers in the USA and Germany?
Yes. Invent Cast operates as active check valve casting suppliers to buyers in the USA, Germany, UK, Australia, UAE, and 15+ other countries supplying with full MTC, COO, dimensional reports, and hydrostatic test records meeting ASTM, ASME, DIN, and EN standards.
Can you produce custom check valve castings from our drawings?
Yes. We specialise in custom check valve castings produced strictly to customer drawings including non-standard port geometry, special alloy grades, integrated seat ring features, and proprietary disc designs. Both prototype and full production volumes are accommodated.
